Cosmic Era 70 - The story begins 11 months after the war started between Naturals and Coordinators, immediately following the tragedy of Bloody Valentine. Heliopolis - a space colony belonging to the neutral nation, Orb, is disrupted by Zaft's(Coordinators) sudden invasion. Their mission - to capture Heliopolis' secretly developed mobile suits, sponsored by the Atlantic Federation(Naturals' organization).
Zaft forces were successful and captured 4 of the 5 Gundams. In doing so, our main character, Kira Yamato is accidentally involved. When he is reunited with his best friend, Athrun Zala, Kira discovers that he is in Zaft forces. Being a coordinator, and the only one able to pilot a Gundam against invading Zaft forces, Kira is forced into the battle field, piloting the Strike. In order to protect his beloved friends, Kira believes the only option is to fight.
Now, he must fight against his own kind, as well as his best friend, Athrun.
The sorrowful quest for peace begins...
